Project summary

Project Sunrise is a plan to provide solar lanterns to families in Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico is plagued by hurricanes and a mismanaged power grid which causes extensive power outages. Our plan is to purchase solar lanterns and send them to the island to provide a light in the dark. The intention is to provide solar lanterns as a temporary solution while working towards larger, long lasting projects.

What are this project's goals? How will you achieve them?

Our goal is to provide solar lanterns to families in Aguada, Puerto Rico. We are already connected in the community, our next steps are to purchase and ship solar lanterns to the community!

Our plan is to purchase durable solar lanterns through retail stores and ship them to our connection in Puerto Rico. Our volunteers on the ground will then be able to distribute these lanterns to families in Aguada.

How will this funding be used?

Any funding will be used for the purchase and shipping of solar lanterns.

Who is on your team? What's your track record on similar project?

This is our first project! At this time we do not have a history, so we are looking to start with this project.

Our team consists of Allie, Steph, and Caleb who are the founders and driving force for the organization. We are recently graduated students looking to make a change in a place we love and care for.

What are the most likely causes and outcomes if this project fails?

The most likely failure would be adversity from the community. In the past, other organizations have not followed through with promises made for similar projects. We are planning to have the lanterns purchased and ready to ship, so we can back-up what we commit to.

What other funding are you or your project getting?

At this time, our other funding is coming from individual donors we meet online or at in-person events.
